Welcome!

Hi all!

Welcome to the DH Tribe Comic Book Reading Club!

We decided to start this endeavor because we love comics, and we wanted to discuss comics through a platform with a wider audience. After the great reception we had at our panel 'Countercultures' at the Comic Arts Conference at Wonder Con, we talked at length about how we could share our viewpoints and perspectives with other people beyond our immediate spheres of influence.

Each of us came into comics late in our lives. We were either exposed to comics through our love of 90s superhero cartoons or through our book exchanges where we literally said, "Read this!" We did not grow up within pop, nerd and geek cultures. In fact, our parents have little knowledge, if any, to these cultures. While this lack of exposure places us at a disadvantage next to those who might have been immersed in these cultures and traditions, our English-major backgrounds allows us to overcome these challenges and discuss comics through critical lenses like intersectionality and critical race theory.

So who are we? We're all California State University, Dominguez Hills alumni. Go Toros! As we briefly mentioned beforehand, we each graduated from the English: Literature M.A program hence our moniker--'DH Tribe'. We each come from diverse ethnic backgrounds and thus, we each can share a unique perspective in our comic discussions. We hope you enjoy and can add to our discourse community. We welcome all questions, comments, and praise (if you are so inclined). If you want to know more about who we are and what our interests are please check out our "About Us" page.
